Accessibility statement
The Childcare Resource and Research Unit (CRRU) wants everyone to be able to use Building Canada’s Child Care System, including people who use screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice control, or a keyboard instead of a mouse.
Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. WCAG is the international standard for accessible websites, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
What we have done
- Pages use real text headings in a logical order, so you can move through a page by its headings.
- Images that carry meaning have text descriptions (alt text). Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Text and background colours have been checked for contrast.
- Links that open in a new window are marked with an icon, and screen readers announce that they open a new window.
- The layout adapts to phones, tablets, and enlarged text.
- We check pages with an accessibility testing tool and by hand.
Known limitations
- Many of the resources we link to are on other websites, including document pages on childcarecanada.org and reports from governments and other organizations. We cannot guarantee that those sites and documents are accessible.
- Some older PDF documents may not be fully accessible. If you need a document in another format, please contact us.
- We are continuing to review the provincial and territorial progress tables to make them easier to use with screen readers.
